When purchasing a Snooker/Pool table it is most important to check the size of the room. If a table is too large for the room you may not enjoy playing on it. Draw a plan of the room and measure it at its nearest points. Do not measure into bay windows or to the recesses of a fireplace. All large furniture should be outside the measurements shown below.

You should note at this point that there is no advantage to positioning a table diagonally in a room as the corner pockets are brought closer to the walls.

The weight of a snooker/pool table varies considerably with the size and type of table. The all up weight of a full size table is approximately 25 cwt (1270 kg). These tables usually stand on 8 legs so that each leg will support approximately 3.12 cwt (158.75 kgs).

A full size table however actually occupies a floor in excess of 6.5 sq.m (72sq.ft.) therefore the average weight per sq.m is 195 kg (39lbsq.ft). This is a very reasonable floor load but even this does not allow for the additional floor space around the table used for cueing. We would therefore say that if a floor is of a sound construction it will usually carry the weight of a full size table without special strengthening.
